1    课题 :Unit8  Helping tourists

2.   教材分析

本课的主要内容是问路及回答以where和which构成的句型贯穿全文。在第三单元同学们已经接触到where的问句,如Where are you from?和以前所学的Where are you going?故同学们对本课where的句型就易接受。同时同学们在学会的句型后,在学习9单元时出现的Which is your favourite festival?句型时,并不感到陌生。所以本课内容在此起到承上启下的作用。既复习了所学的内容,又对即将要学的知识进行了铺垫。

3  教学目标

1)   学生熟练地听懂,会说有关地点的单词,如:the airpout, Chinese Art Museum, Longhua Temple, Garden Hotel, Train station, City stadium etc.

2)   使学生听懂,会说如下问路的日常交流用语:Can I help you? Where is the Longhua Temple? Which bus goes to the airport? etc.并能熟练运用日常交流用语回答: It's over there, on the right. Turn left at---. Go straight down ---. Bus No. 106 goes to --- etc.

3)   能听能读字母a的发音[Ə].

4.教学重点与难点。

能听懂,会说有关地点的单词。会说问路的日常交流用语及其回答。

1)    地点的单词:the airport, Chinese Art Museum, Longhua Temple, Garden Hotel, Train Station etc.

       2)   问路用语及回答:Where is the Toy Museum?

Turn left at library. Go straight down --- It's beside ---

              Which bus goes to the airport?

              Bus No. 106 goes ---

       3) 能运用所学的句型进行扩展性的情景会话和表演。

5.教学过程:8课时。

 Period 1: Part A  

Teaching contents: Part A  

Teaching aims and demands:

1 Help the pupils grasp the names of the  places :the airport, Chinese Art Museum, Longhua Temple, Garden Hotel, City  Stadium, Train station.

2 Help the pupils grasp the main sentences about asking the way:

     Where is the Longhua Temple?

     Let's look at the map.

     Here it is.

Main points:

 1 Help each pupil grasp the names of the places.

 2 Help the pupils learn to say the sentences about asking the way.

Difficult points:  Let's look at the map.

Teaching tools: 1 a tape recorder

                2 some cards

                3 a map

                4 powerpoint

Teaching steps:

 Step 1: Revision.

   Ask the pupils questions about where they are from.

       T: Where are you from?

       S: I'm from Shenzhen.

 Step 2: Presentation.

   1 Show a pupil a map, say Excuse me. And give a sentence card with "Can I help you?" written on it, and prompt him or her to ask.

       T: Excuse me.

       S: Can I help you?

   2 Pointing to Shenzhen on the card,ask "Where is Shenzhen?" and give another sentence card with "Let's look at the map."to the student and prompt him or her to say.

       T: Where is Shenzhen?

       S: Let's look at the map.Here it is.

   3(点出幻灯片)Present a picture of airplane and tell the pupils " You can take a plane here,and ask "Where is the airpout?" Help the pupils answer "Let's look at the map.Oh,here it is." Get the pupils to learn to say the word "airport".

   4 Teach the other new words as the same way.

   5 Play the tape for the students to listen and repeat.

 Step 3: Practice.

   1 (点出幻灯片) Show the pupils a map with the places we learned.Then divide the class into two large groups.Get them to take turns role-play the tourist and Pat.

   2 Show the pupils another map with their address and ask them to practise the dialogue.

 Step 4: Workbook.

   1 Ask the pupils to copy the words.

   2 Finish the listening exercise on P45 in Workbook.

  Blackboard Activity:

    Excuse me.

    Can I help you?

    Yes, please. Where is ---?

    Let's look at ---. Oh, here it is.

Period 2: Part B1

   Teaching aims and demands:

  1 Enable the pupils to understand and say the dialogue.

  2 Get the pupils to practise the sentences.

       Which bus goes to---, please?

       Bus No.106 goes to---

       Where is the bus stop?

       It's over there, on the right.

 Main points:

       Which bus goes to---?

       Bus No.106 goes to---

       Where is the bus stop?

       It's over there, on the right.

Difficult points:

       Bus No.106 goes to ---

Teaching tools

Teaching steps:

  Step 1: Revision:

     Show the pupils a map with some places and in pairs the pupils make up conversations using the dialogue they learned.

  Step 2: Presentation.

    1 (点出幻灯片)Show some pictures of “players” to practise the sentences.(这些照片是学生熟悉的刘翔等)

    T: Which player is No.78?

    S: Liu Xiang.

    2 Teaching phrases: over there,on the right/left,in the middle by the pictures.

    T: Where is Liu Xiang?

    S: He is on the left.

    3 (点出幻灯片)Show a bus stop and a map of Shenzhen. Then ask the places the pupils know well.

    T: Where is Nanshan Hospital?

    S: Let's look at the map. Oh,here it is.It's on the right.

    T: Which bus goes there?

    S: Bus No.332 goes there.

    T: Where is the bus stop?

    S: It's over there,on the left.

    4 Give the pupils some information about the bus numbers and the places where the buses go.In pairs let them have an conversation using the sentence patterns.

   Step 3: Practice.

    1 Play the tape for the pupils to listen and repeat.

    2 Ask the pupils to work in pairs to complete the conversations between the tourists and Pat and Tim about Part B1 on P54.

  Homework:

 1 Remember the dialogue.

 2 Do the listening exercises on Page 46 in workbook.

  Blackboard Activity:

 Where is ---?

   Period 3: Part B2/B3

Teaching aims and demands:

1 Learn how to ask and tell the way.

2 How to find the direction.

3 Four skills: Turtle pool, park, No. 5 primary school, post office, Library etc.

Main and difficult points:

1 How to find the right place: Turn left/right at ---

                               Go straight down---  It's beside ---

2 Remember all the different places: Turtle pool, park, No 5 primary school etc.

Teaching tools:

1 A tape recorder

2 A map

3 Powerpoint.

Teaching steps:

Step 1: Warming up.

1 Sing the song

2 Review the words: "left" and "right" by showing the left hand and the right hand.

Step 2: Presentation.

1 Draw a map with more places like this on the blackboard. Teach all the new words of places in the box. Use prepositional phrases to describe them, such us beside, behind, on the left, on the right etc. Then use the road to teach "Turn left/right at---", "Go straight at---"and "the first crossing" etc.

2 According to this map, have a conversation like this.

 T: Where is the bank, please?

 S: Go straight down Beijing Road. Turn right at the second crossing. The bank is on the right.

Step 3: Practice.

1 Play the tape for the pupils to listen and repeat.

2 The pupils ask and answer in pairs about the way on the blackboard.

3 (点出幻灯片)Show a map of Nanshan and ask the students to talk about places they know well using the dialogue.

Step 4: Listening.

 Play the tape and ask the pupils to listen to the conversation and write numbers in Part B3.

Homework:

1 Remember the places and the dialogue.

2 Finish the listening exercises on P47 in workbook.

Blackboard Activity:

  Hello, where's ---,please?

  Turn left at---. Go straight down---.It's beside---.

Period 4: Part C/D

Teaching aims and demands

1 Learn how to ask and tell the way.

2 Four skills

 1) Where's the bus station?

 2) I'm going to the bus station now.

3 Three skills.

 1) I need to get on that bus.

 2) You can follow me.

 3) It is very crowded on the bus.

Main points:

 1 Learn how to ask and tell the way.

 2 Be able to remember.

  1) Where is the bus station?

  2) I'm going to the bus station now.

Difficult points:

 1 You can follow me.

 2 I need to get on that bus.

 3 It's very crowded on the bus.

Teaching tools:

 1 A tape recorder

 2 some cards and pictures

 3 powerpoint

Teaching steps:

 Step 1: Warming up.

  1 Review giving directions to different places and call two pupils out to perform the dialogue like this.

S1: Excuse me. Where's the cinema, please?

S2: Turn left at the library. Go straight down Nanshan Road. It is beside the park.

Step 2: Presentation.

1 Draw a bus station and the Bobs who go on holiday on the blackboard. Show the Bob's family want to find the bus station.

 T: Excuse me. Where are the Bob's family going now?

 S: They are going to the bus station now.

2 If T needs to go there, too. Have a dialogue like this.

 T: I need to go there. You can follow me.

 S: Thank you.

3 Draw a bus where there are many people, and draw a man who wants to get on. Have a dialogue like this.

 T: What does the man want to do?

 S: He wants to get on the bus.

 T: Why doesn't he get on the bus?

 S: Because it's very crowded on the bus.

4 Play the tape for the pupils and answer some questions according to the story.

Step 3:Practice.

1 (点出幻灯片)Show a map of Shenzhen. Ask the pupils to talk about it by using the sentence patterns in Part C.

2 Look on the class as a map and there is a bank, KFC, Mcdonald's and a hospital and let the pupils ask and tell the way.

Step 4: Consolidation.

Do Part D.

 Blackboard Activity:

   Excuse me, where is ---,please?

   I'm going to ---now. You can follow me.

   I need to get on ---

   It's very crowded on that bus.

Period 5: Part E

Teaching aims and demands

1 Learn and grasp the sound [Ə]

2 Learn and say the rhyme.

3 Revise the structures "be going to", "need to do" and "get on".

Teaching tools

1 A tape recorder.

2 some cards

Teaching steps:

Step 1: Revision.

 1 Book closed! Show a map of Nanshan and review the dialogue of Parts B1 and B2.

 2 Ask the questions in part C and review the structures "be going to", "need to do" and "get on".

Step 2 :Sound.

 1 Show some word cards with the letter "a" and the sound[Ə]and ask the pupils to read them and pay attention to the pronunciation of the letter "a".

 2 Play the tape for the pupils and ask them to listen to the sound and the words and repeat.

 3 Ask the pupils to say some words with the sound [Ə] and then listen to some words and say the words with the same letter and the sound.

 4 Play the tape again. Ask the pupils to listen and say the rhyme. Then say the words with the same letters and the sound.

 5 Ask the pupils to listen to the four words at the bottom of the page and to circle the words with the same letters and sound.

Step 3: Test.

  Ask the pupils to listen to a group of words with four. Then circle the word without the sound [Ə].

 Homework

Do the exercises on Page 48 in workbook.

Period 6: Part F/G

Teaching aims and demands

1 Learn and understand all the different places on the map.

2 Learn how to find the right places.

3 Learn to understand the directions.

Main and difficult points

1 Learn how to find the right places.

2 Learn to understand the directions.

Teaching tools:

1 A tape recorder.

2 A map.

3 some compasses

Teaching steps

Step 1: Warming up.

 1 Listen and chant: Part G.

 2 Show a map with many places and the bus stops.Then ask the pupils to find out the different places and the bus stops.

 T: Excuse me, where is the bookshop?

 S: Let's look at the map. Oh, here it is.

 3 Revise phrases: Go straight down---  Turn left/right at---    on the left/right etc. using the map.

Step 2: Presentation.

 1 Ask a pupil to circle one of the places on the map. Have a conversation like this.

  T Excuse me, where's the cinema?

  S: Go straight down---. Turn left at---. It's on the right.

  T: Thank you.

 Step 3: A game.

  Tell the pupils to role-play a tourist and a local person. Then tourist asks "Where's the bus stop?" The local person tells them how to get to a particular bus stop. The pupil playing the role of the tourist. Then guesses where the bus goes to from that stop.

 Step 4:Think about it.

 1 Ask the pupils to tell the directions according to the road near our school.

 2 Show the compasses and tell the directions again. Then circle the one with the correct points.

 Homework:

Do the exercises on Page 50 in workbook.

Period 7/8:  

 Do some exercises, check and explain in detail.
