一、教学目标与要求
本单元的教学重点是继续学习疑问句的直接引语和间接引语。通过对课文的学习,使学生对其思想内涵有更深刻的了解。要求学生不仅能复述课文大意,还能分角色将全剧或部分表演下来。在表演中,充实对剧中人物的理解和认识,提高自己的表达水平。

1.检查生词及短语。
2.教师通过以下步骤导入本课:
向学生提出下列问题: I’m sure yon all know the story entitled“ The necklace”. Nowread the play fast and find out how many people there are in the play and who they are.
数分钟后继续提问: Yes,yon are right.There are three main characters in the play.Now please find out the relationship between the three people.
放录音一遍,请学生回答上述问题,教师予以必要订正。
3.根据本课内容,教师再提出一些问题,检查学生的理解程度。

4.再放录音,学生跟读。将学生分为三人一组,分角色练习本剧的上半部分。
5.讨论题(用投影仪打出): Why do you think Pierre and his wife considered the ballvery important? In what way was it important to them?
6.布置作业 1)分角色练习本剧的上半部分;2)预习第70课;3)完成练习册中安排的练习。

2.教师提问,复习第69课内容(问题可参阅上一课教案)。
3.教师给出读前提问: 1) When Mathilde was young,was she pretty? How do youknow? 2) How much did it cost them to buy a real diamond necklace?
教师给学生数分钟,要求学生快速阅读课文。之后请同学回答上述问题。

On Friday afternoon Mathilde went to Jeanne’s place to borrow some jewellery.Jeannewas kind and brought out all her jewellery.Mathilde tried a lovely diamond necklace on andit looked wonderful on her.Pierre and Mathilde had a wonderful time at the ball.But ontheir way home,Mathilde found her necklace was missing.Both of them were very worried.They rushed back and looked for It. But theycouldn’t find It. The next day theyborrowed alot of money to buy a diamond necklace and returned it to Jeanne.During the next ten yearsthey worked very hard in order to pay back the money.After Jeanne had heard all this,shecouldn’t help telling Mathilde that the necklace wasn’t a real diamond necklace. It was worthfive hundred francs at most.

2.教师从本单元词语中选择部分常见词语,配以例句介绍给学生。要求学生反复练习这些例句,并请同学造句,教师予以讲评订正。

四、难句分析
1.…,but I don’t think I know you.……,但是,我想我不认识你。
But I don’t think we can go.但是我想我们去不成。
这两句话的英语表达方式和汉语不同。汉语主句中的动词“想”用肯定式,而宾语从句中的动词用否定式。英语则相反,表现为否定的前移,即主句动词(通常是think,suppose等)用否定式,而宾语从句中的动词用肯定式。又如:
I don’t think I can get away.我想我走不了。
I don’t think we need waste much time on this.我想我们不必在这个问题上浪费那么多时间。
I didn’t think we’d be this late.我想我们不会这么晚才到。
I don’t suppose I shall be back until 10 P.m.我想十点以前我回不来。
2.That’s because of hard work—ten years of hard work.那是劳累的原故……十年的劳累呀!
介词词组“because of”作“因为”解,后跟名词构成介词短语,作表语或状语。例如:
She looks very sad. That’s because of the bad news—the news of her mother’s death.她看上去很忧伤,那是因为那个坏消息的缘故—她的母亲去世了。
They didn’t start because of the snow.因为下雪,所以他们没有出发。
The patient cried because of the pain in the leg.那位病人因为腿部疼痛而喊叫起来。
“because”和“because of”意义相同,但“because”是连词,引导状语从句。例如:
They didn’t start because it snowed.因为下雪,他们没有出发。
3. Have times been hard for you?这些年近况不太好吧?
句中的“times(复数)”作“境况”、“日子”、“时代”解,常用来表示生活情况或生活环境。例如:
All of them had hard times during the war.战争期间他们的日子都很难过。
Times have been good since 1978.从1978年以来生活就好过多了。
The times are different;but he still has some old ideas.时代不同了,而他还有一些旧的观念。
4.But,just this once.After all,this ball is very important.不过,就只这么一次。这次舞会毕竟很重要啊。
“after all”作“毕竟/终究/到底”解,含有“要知道……”、“别忘记……”的含义,用来说服或提醒对方,引出对方似乎忘记了的某个重要的论点或理由,表示这层含义时,“afterall”通常要放在句首。课文的句子就有这层含义。例如:
Of course he was not polite.After all,he is your only son.当然了,他很不礼貌。但他毕竟是你唯一的儿子啊。
It’s not surprising you’re tired.After all, you were up until eleven last night!难怪你感到疲倦。别忘了,你昨天晚上11点才睡。
“after all”也可以放在句子的末尾,这时有“虽然……但毕竟……”的含义,表示和预期的情况相反,说话人的意思转折。例如:
They met with difficulties,but I hear that they’ve succeeded after all.他们遇到了困难,但我听说他们终究还是成功了。
She said she wouldn’t go to the ball, but she went there after all.她说她不会去参加舞会,但她终归还是去了。
5.So I called on you…于是我去拜访你……
“call on sb.=visit sb.”看望/访问某人。例如:
Let’s go and call on the pop star.咱们去看望那位歌星吧。
They called on their teachers on Teachers’Day.教师节那天他们去看望老师了。
注意:如果说“访问某地”时,则要用“call at”。例如:
I’ll call at your house tomorrow morning.Are you free then?明天上午我去府上看望你,你有空吗?
6.We both worked day and night to pay back the money we had borrowed.为了偿还这笔借款,我们俩不分昼夜地干活。
1)“pay back”的意思是“偿还/还钱”。“还钱给某人”用“pay back money to sb.”,“还钱作为支付的费用”用“pay back money for sth.”。例如:
You haven’t paid back the money for those books.你还没有把那笔书款还回来。
We must remember to pay the money back to John next week.我们一定要记住下周把钱还给John。
2)动词“pay”还可以和其他介词或副词搭配,如“pay for(付……款)”,“pay off(还清欠款)”。例如:
How much did you pay for the dictionary?这本字典你花了多少钱?
Of course,I am quite willing to pay for the bike.当然了,我很乐意付这辆车的款。
He paid off all the debts on time.他按时把债还清了。
I must pay off that 70 dollars.我必须偿还那70美元。
7.间接引语(3)
在引述疑问句时,除了注意时态呼应,代词的转换以及时间、地点状语的必要调整外,还应注意语序的问题和各类疑问句转换时的不同要求。
1)引述一般疑问句、选择疑问句或反意疑问句时,通常用“whether”或“if”来引导,间接问句中的语序要用陈述句的语序。例如:
He asked,“Are you sure your mother will come?”
He asked whether(if) I was sure my mother would come.
She asked him,“Are you a teacher or a student?”
She asked him whether/if he was a teacher or a student.
2)引述特殊疑问句时,仍用直接引语中的疑问词来引导,并将疑问词的语序改用陈述句的语序。
She asked,“Where are you to get off, John?”
She asked John where he was to get off.
He asked Tom,“What are you looking for?”
He asked Tom what he was looking for
